Carol and I have danced side by side for more than a decade at the Y. Over the years I managed to nail all the steps and movements, but never the graceful flow. I shared my frustration with Carol between songs one day. She said “Leslie, you and I are tall. We have long limbs. Just look at our wing span.”
We laughed together about our physical engineering and the impossibility of ever being able to toss ourselves around like our compact classmates.
I miss Carol’s physical presence. I can picture her perfectly and vividly in my mind. Her skinny little black shorts, her favorite workout tank top and her ever-present, joyful smile. I am a such a lucky woman to have had Carol as a friend. I’ll miss those hugs she wrapped around me with her amazing wing span.
